Sitting on the Back Porch IS Doing Something!

backporchWelcome to my favorite summertime place…the back porch.  I love to sit here and soak up the smells and sounds of summer.  The warmth of the summer sun intensifies the smell of fresh cut grass. Listening to the birds fill the air with their music always reminds me that ,while God cares for and provides for each of them, He loves and cares for me even more!  I love watching the rain filled clouds roll in as the wind picks up.  The smell of rain lets me know that a soaker storm is looming.

I love to watch the people who stroll by on the nearby walking path, waving hello.  Sometimes they’ll stop to talk if I know them.  Our back porch overlooks a huge a cul-de-sac where a basketball hoop was recently placed.  Last weekend, four young boys were going head to head, seeing who could shoot the hoop from the farthest away. I was impressed by their ability to play this sport at such a young age.

But most of all, I love to sit and read on my back porch, a glass of iced tea or water within easy reach.  I read, ponder and try to listen to what God is telling me.  The words of wise men who are far more studied than I am sink deep into my mind as the Holy Spirit drives them into my heart.  I am filled with hope as I sit and read, that God is always up to something good, not only in my life, but in the lives of those around me.  He continues to mold and shape me  into the person He wants me to be: someone who reflects Him in the most positive way to a broken and hurting world. I’m so thankful He’s so persistent and does not easily give up!

Much is accomplished as I sit on my back porch.  I so wish you could join me for a some iced tea and a chat, maybe even share a prayer.  If you happen to be strolling by one evening, be sure to give out a shout!  Until then, enjoy summer!

Yes! My favorite spot is our screened porch, sitting sideways on the love seat, feet up, book in my lap, dogs at my feet, kids in the pool, flowers swaying in the breeze, birds chirping, sounds of the surrounding forest – I love all of it. I’m headed there now with a cup of coffee! Wish you could join me!
