Always Traveling, Never Arriving

I’m absolutely lovin’ reading The Prodigal God, by Timothy Keller. We all can identify with the younger son, who took his inheritance and squandered it on reckless living. Maybe we cannot all identify with this part, but towards the end of his exile, the younger son longed for home. He longed to go back to his home and to the father he left.
Timothy Keller says we are all exiles, longing for home. We were not made to live in the world as it exists today. It’s a broken and fallen world. We were made and created to live in perfect harmony with God, others and our surroundings. Until we eventually get to that place, we’re always traveling, never arriving. Home continues to evade us.
As a military family, this rings very close to my heart. Our physical home is always moving. It’s always relocating. It’s always changing. I have to remember that my real true home is nowhere here on earth, but with God. I’m thankful for the time God allows me to be here and I pray I’m being effective in using this time for His glory. But ultimately, Jesus came to escort us all to our real and true homes. Until then, we’re always traveling, never arriving.
