Always Buy One More

While shopping at the Amish Market last weekend, I was pondering how many links of polish sausage I should purchase  -three or four. I was planning on giving a spontaneous invitation to a friend that evening as we ended our Sat. evening church service.  If I bought three and she decided to come, I would have just enough.  If she did not come, I’d have one left over.  This would require me to go back to the store to purchase another one to serve my husband and myself at a later time.  If I bought four and she did not come, then I’d already enough for another meal for the two of us. Four seemed to be the logical number.  Four it was.

As we ended the service that night, I extended my spontaneous invitation to my friend.  I was happy she readily accepted.  It was Halloween night and we laughed about sitting outside and passing out candy to the trick-or-treaters as we ate our grilled smoked sausages.  Upon leaving the building, I noticed another church attender standing around by herself, as if waiting to see what everyone else was doing after the service.   There are times when we will go out to dinner as a group, but no such plan was made for tonight. Grace is hearing impaired and she looked as thought she was waiting for an invitation to join someone to go somewhere.

I quickly remembered I had purchased an additional link of smoked sausage. This was why God had put it on my heart to buy one extra.  Thankful that I had a meal (meager as it was) to offer her, I asked her to join us as we ate and passed out Halloween candy.  She too, readily accepted my invitation.  The three of us had the best time that night, laughing and carrying on.   I was so thankful I had purchased one more smoked sausage.

The lesson I learned:  Always buy one more.  Tomorrow, I plan on purchasing tickets for The Lion King.  They will be performing in Philadelphia.  I am going to buy an extra ticket.  I wonder who God might be wanting me to invite to go with us?  I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.
