How do YOU experience God?

In Ephesians 1:18, Paul prays for God to give believers the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so they would know Him better.  But he prays for more than simply a knowledge about God, he prays for believers to know God better by experiencing God.

I know how to play baseball, but my knowledge is simply that of a spectator.  I watch other people play the game from the sidelines.  As I child, I knew about Jesus.  I knew He was the Son of God and that we celebrate his birth at Christmas.  I heard other people  talk about him and watched them live out their faith from the sidelines.

This is not the kind of knowledge Paul is talking about.  Christianity is not a spectator sport.  God’s intent is for us all to be in the game – to experience Him in our everyday, ordinary life.

What is so fascinating is that we all experience God in different ways.  When I asked the question on my Facebook page, “How do you experience God?”, here’s a few of the responses:

  • Through friends and relationships
  • Through parenting my child, seeing the similarities of The Father/child relationship I have with God
  • Though the wisdom and Godly counsel of a minister after the death of my father
  • Through the pain of infertility and now the joy of being pregnant
  • Bringing certain people into my life

How about you?  How do you experience God?

When we experience God, we do, as Paul prays, begin to know Him better.  And when we know Him better, we can delight in His love, grace, mercy and forgiveness on a daily basis.  With boundless energy and endless strength we can trust Him with our lives.
