Truth or Consequences

I hope I am not the only person old enough to remember there was a television game show in the ’60′s titled ‘Truth or Consequences.’  As best as I can remember, the show consisted of a panel who had to decide whether or not a particular individual’s story was true or false.  If they provided the correct answer, they stayed on the show for another round.  If however, they did not answer correctly, they faced the consequences of having to leave the show. It’s been many years since this show was on the air, but the title is more relevant than ever. Everyone today is given a similar choice and stands in the position of having to choose between Truth or consequences.

Oh…The Truth Project from Focus on the Family with Dr. Tackett!  I love it!  Watching it for the second time is just as captivating as it was the first.   The main point of the first lesson?  Truth really does exist.  Jesus Himself stated that He came into the world ‘to testify to the truth.’ (John 18:37).  Truth was and still is, on trial.  In every trial there are two sides.  What is the opposing side in the Truth trial?  The opposing side is lies, where the devil is known as  the Father of them, for there is no truth in him. (John 8:44-46)  And the consequences of not choosing the side of Truth?  A lifetime of believing lies that keep us in captivity. (2 Tim. 2:26)

Oh my friends, can you see that Truth is on trial today like never before?  Just look at what is happening in our country today.  It’s all I can do to listen to the news and read the morning papers without weeping thinking, ‘when and where is all of this going to end?  Is it ever going to end?’

I cannot change anyone else or persuade them to choose Truth over lies, but I can pray.  Paul prayed for the Ephesians, asking God to do that which Paul could not do – open their eyes and give them the Spirit of wisdom and revelation. (Eph. 1:17)

I  was driving down the highway the other day when I noticed a car had pulled into the exit lane in an attempt to exit.   Apparently, the driver was not sure if he was going in the right direction because instead of exiting, he literally stopped in the fork of the two roads, clearly unsure of which way to go.  He stopped in a place where he could still take either road, but one thing was very clear – he had to make a choice.  He could not stay there in the fork of the two roads.  He had to choose between one or the other.  If he chose the right way, he would get to where he wanted to go.  If he chose the wrong way, he’d be lost. At best if would take him longer to get where he was going.

Many of us, like this driver,  are standing in the fork of two roads.  We have to make a choice. We cannot take both roads.  We have to choose between one or the other.  We have to choose between Truth or consequences.  Which one will you choose?
